Local End of Life Doulas Anthea and Karen are offering a series of Death Cafes in cooperation with Westminster Events.

WHY would people want talk about death???
To live life more fully. To be more prepared for the eventual deaths of ourselves and those we love. To be real.

At the thousands of Death Cafes that have been held around the world, individuals come together to share what is on their minds and hearts regarding mortality and death. People come with their ideas, their curiosity, and their willingness to share and to listen openly to others, without criticizing others’ beliefs or offering unsolicited feedback.

No products or services will be promoted. Your optional $5 donation will help to cover the cost of tea and cake or cookies.

RSVPs are appreciated but not required.

Conversations on Death & Dying

For residents of Villa Marin Senior Living Community

Temporarily paused — this page will be updated when we resume
Monthly, beginning on 9/22/22,
and continuing as indicated below

1:00-2:30pm

Villa Marin
100 Thorndale Drive
San Rafael, CA

Similar to the Death Cafe, these are facilitated conversations on topics related to death and dying. Grab a cup of tea in the lobby, and join a small group around a table to share questions, concerns, experiences, and reflections.

We talk and listen openly, without judgment and without trying to “fix” one another. Diverse beliefs and ideas are welcome.

Talking about death helps us to live life more fully and to be more prepared for the eventual deaths of ourselves and those we love.

  • Let's Talk about GRIEF

    March 3 and 10, 2022, on Zoom

March 24, 2022, in person, Tiburon, CA

Join local end of life doulas Karen and Anthea for two interactive workshops (March 3 & 10) on Zoom, leading up to “Grief Over Dinner” (March 24) — in person with special guest Frank Ostaseski, hospice pioneer and author of The Five Invitations: What Death Can Teach Us About Living Fully.

Recent times have presented more opportunities for individual and collective grief than any time in recent memory. Any change or loss can cause grief — death, illness, loss of treasured social rituals, changes in how we work and learn, the end of a job or relationship. WE GRIEVE BECAUSE WE CARE, and while each grief is an opportunity to heal, to gain wisdom, and eventually to move toward gratitude, IT’S NOT ALWAYS SIMPLE!

Participants will engage in safe, guided conversations that will harness the power of human connection and provide mindfulness practices and other transformative tools for healing. During “Grief Over Dinner,” guides will facilitate small-group conversations over a simple meal.

(The first two sessions will be held on Zoom. The dinner will be in person at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Tiburon, CA, in a large, well-ventilated space. Proof of Covid vaccination/booster required for dinner participants.)
